Valentine’s Day is named after the Christian martyr Saint Valentine and established by Pope Gelasius I in 500 AD and later deleted from the Roman calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI.
In the middle ages, there were no romantic elements linked to Valentine’s Day that we know, (although there may be some evidence of gentlemen who would collect flowers for the ladies and perhaps, gardeners of the court might offer flower delivery services and chocolatiers would launch special chocolate gifts offers).

The 14th Century is when Saint Valentine’s Day started being associated with romance. This association between romantic love and Valentine’s Day was founded in Parlement of Foules written by the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer who wrote a poem honoring the first anniversary of the engagement between Richard II and Anne of Bohemia.

Since the 19th century, one way of showing your love to your better half was giving a greeting card called “valentine” as a gift. The one responsible of this gift idea for Valentine’s day was Esther Howland.
Nowadays, although planning the perfect Valentine’s gift is not easy, you can find thousands of Valentine’s day ideas to impress your date. Typically men who want to buy a gift for her, would give chocolates or flowers. That would be the perfect gift for a romantic soul to make her feel as a pamper princess. However there are lots and lots of gift ideas for giving the perfect surprise for Valentine’s Day. For example you can find the perfect gift for men depending on the personality. If he is an adrenaline junkie you could surprise him with an adventure gift like a 4x4 driving experience or a flying lesson gift. However, if he is a wine and food lover why not to prepare a romantic dinner with good food and wine. On the other hand the perfect gift for men who is a gadget guru could be some electronic gadget, ideally something you can use to expend your time with him like a TV to watch movies together.
